Tom Flowers

Honorary member at Brancepeth Castle Golf Club who died on Monday.

Past Captain & Chairman, Tom was a great supporter of golf in the North East and during his time at Brancepeth during the 80s he worked tirelessly to develop the course for it to become one the best in the area.

He was very emotional when made an honorary member six years ago and loved his visits catching up with all the old members from his days in the club
Tom became regional secretary of the NE/NW PGA and again steered the organisation to great success by arranging Pro-Ams throughout the year thereby having competitive golf on a regular basis which was greatly appreciated by its members.

All who knew Tom will miss him greatly none more than the professionals who he represented.

Tour news

Get shorty

Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal held on to win the Alfred Dunhill Championship by a single shot from Joel Sjoholm despite a final round 3-over-75.

However, that was not the story making the headlines.

For the first time on the European Tour, the competing players were allowed to wear shorts during the tournament due to the sweltering temperatures at Leopard Creek, South Africa.

Shorts had previously been restricted to just practice rounds and pro-ams across the board but discussions between players, European Tour CEO Keith Pelley, and tournament host Johann Rupert led to the decision to relax the rules - but for this tournament only!
