Recent discovery

New course in mid-Wales

Could you imagine unearthing a long-lost golf course designed by the architect of Augusta National & Pebble Beach?

Well, according to a BBC News article that we came across last week, this is exactly what Chris Powell did in mid-Wales during lockdown. Clearing bracken and mowing grass, he has breathed new life into a long-lost Dr Alister MacKenzie course.

We all had lockdown projects, from baking banana bread to (we hope) working on your swing, but Mr Powell dedicated his time to rediscovering the course and now plans to host a charity round to raise money for the NHS. Bravo!

Walker Cup heartache

This event pits the best male American amateur golfers against their GB&I counterparts in a tense two-day battle, similar to the Ryder Cup.

Great Britain & Ireland fought to the bitter end against a stubborn American outfit but sadly came up just short in Florida over the weekend. Despite a stomach bug outbreak in both teams, the golfers put on a display of outstanding golf.

Rory wins Wells Fargo (again)

We can all try to fight it – we can put the kettle on and casually ask ‘How’s he getting on?’ over our shoulder – but ultimately there’s no denying that most golf fans were delighted to see Rory McIlroy back in the winners’ circle at Quail Hollow.

It had been 18 months without a win for the Northern Irishman, and you’d be forgiven if you’d forgotten just how brilliant he is to watch when everything falls into place.
